Met-Coke is general : term for the coke used for metallurgical purposes VIZ Iron Foundries, Steel Foundries, Non-Ferrous metal castings, Lead & Zinc smelters, secondary Steel Producers, Chemical Plants VIZ Soda Ash & Calcium Carbides Plants, Ferro-Alloy Plants & Pig Iron Producers using Blast Furnaces.
LAM Coke is known as Low Ash Metallurgical Coke.
During the manufacture of Met-Coke using Coke Oven Furnaces, the hot coke produced is taken to a Quenching Tower for quality / cooling the coke to normal temperature. By virtue of the coals available in the nature & the characteristics of the coking process, the quenched coke will not have one uniform size but mixture of various sizes. These are sorted out into fractions using coke cutters 7 screens & graded into following fractions which are basically defined as follows-:
1. Balst Furnace Met-Coke....... Sizes from +20 or +25 or +30mm up to -60 or 80 or 90 or 100mm
2.Foundry Met-Coke.......Sizes of +60mm or +80mm or +90mm or +100mm.
3. Nut Coke.......Sizes barely from +20mm to -30mm or -40mm.
4. Pearl Coke.......Sizes from +10mm to -20mm or -25mm
5.Coke Breeze.......Sizes less than -10mm.
As such, the coking process used is the Same for all the types of coke as above.
